A Lamentation of Racism
Leader: How long, oh Lord, will racism and violence poison your world?
All: How long, oh Lord?
Leader: Come King Jesus, and slay the dragon who leads the world astray.
All: Come, oh Lord!
Leader: Come, Master and Lord, and destroy him who animates division and hatred.
All: We defy him.
Leader: King of death and the grave, lord of racism and injustice.
All: We defy you.
Leader: Death to the god of this age. Destroy him, King Jesus. Go before us and return with the head of the beast.
All: Crush the snake, amen.
Leader: Justice for the oppressed, oh God! Justice for the powerless!
All: Lower the powerful and raise up the powerless!
Leader: God of justice, expose the evil of the powerful and corrupt.
All: May the first be last and the last be first, as King Jesus said.
Leader: King of death and the grave, lord of racism and injustice.
All: We defy you.
Leader: Show mercy to those who were shown no mercy, Gracious Father.
All: Fill the lungs of those who cannot breathe.
Leader: With the sword of truth, Jesus, sever the tongue of the lying snake.
All: Be silent, liar.
Leader: King of death and the grave, lord of racism and injustice.
All: We defy you.
Leader: Jam the guns of the violent, oh God, bring their power to ruin.
All: Dismantle the weapons of the violent, Prince of Peace.
Leader: Redeem those who do evil, merciful God.
All: For we too were once wicked, and you saved us.
Leader: Bless our enemies, Father.
All: Bless and do not curse.
Leader: Empower the saints for the work of justice. Let us not love with words or speech…
All: ..but with actions and in truth.
