Begin with prayer

Gather together as a Community in a comfortable setting. Spend a moment in silence, in the presence of Jesus and each other. Have one person read Luke 5v15-16 over the group and then pray to ask the Holy Spirit to lead and guide your time together.

Debrief the most recent teaching and Practice.

  1. Summarize the most recent teaching. What did you take away from the teaching and what has God been doing in your life this past week because of it?
  2. What did the Spirit speak to you about as you meditated on Philippians 1v3-6 this past week? What did he have to say about making changes to your Rule of Life?

Read this overview

While we are coming to the end of our weekly Practices about the Rule of Life, our commitment to the Rule does not stop here. As you move forward into the seasons ahead, remember that God wants to keep shaping you into the image of his Son, Jesus. Your Rule of Life is a tool that helps you partner with God in the process of your continued Spiritual Formation, and the Spirit wants to keep speaking to you about it.

Discuss the following questions and prompts..

  1. How has the process of making small changes to your Rule of Life gone so far? What domain do you feel like the Spirit has been speaking to you most about?
  2. What is the final domain of your Rule of Life you still need to changemake changes to, and why do you think you’ve chosen this domain asto be the last one?
  3. What do you hope your Rule of Life will look like in 6 months?

Talk over this coming week’s Practice

This week, set aside time to look at your final Rule of Life domain. Ask the Spirit to speak over you as you consider any changes that need to be made to this domain, then spend some quiet moments listening to what he has to say. It might be that he only wants you to make one or two incremental changes, and that’s okay! Write down what you feel the Spirit is saying, and make any adjustments to your Rule as needed.

Next, ask the Spirit what it will look like for you in the long termlong-term to keep sticking to and adjustadjusting your Rule of Life so that it best fits your season of life. Remember, the Rule of Life is a tool that God wants to use to shape us over time as we continue to follow Jesus.

Be prepared to discuss with your Community what you felt the Spirit said next week.

Close in prayer

End in prayer by having one person read the Nicene Creed over the group.

I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages.

God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.

For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.

For our sake, he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures.

He ascended into heaven and wasis seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father [and the Son], who with the Father and the Son, and is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.

I believe in one, holy and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come.

Amen.
